Action research is a form of research that involves participants in thinking about and enquiring into their own practice, in conjunction with others and with a commitment to change. As Richard Winter (2002) suggests it is research

"conceived and carried out mainly by 'insiders', but those engaged in andcommitted to the situation, not by outsiders, not by ‘spectators’ (although outside ‘facilitators’ may also, indeed, have rather an important role to play)."
